Day 2 Highlights from the National Disciple Making Forum
Dear Discipleship-First Friends,
The day began with a clear reminder: disciple making isn’t just important—it’s essential.
Why It’s Not Happening with Alice Matagora
Only 30% of Christians are actively making disciples, and just 20% have been discipled themselves. The issue isn’t passion—it’s clarity. Many don’t know how, don’t feel equipped, or assume it’s for church staff.
Keep It Simple
Disciple making grows when it’s simple and reproducible:
Word — Pray — Obey — Pass it on.
Hear from God. Act on it. Share it.
The goal isn’t more knowledge—it’s obedience. When people live this out in everyday relationships, it multiplies.
Disciple Making Is Relational with Chris Harper
You can’t disciple from a distance—it requires real investment.
Four types of people you’ll encounter (2 Timothy 4):
- Demas – Those who disappoint you → Stay faithful.
- Mark – Those who surprise you (in a good way) → Stay patient.
- Alexander – Those who oppose and harm you → Stay steady.
- Luke – Those who stay and love you → Value them deeply.
Disciple making is costly—but it’s how the Kingdom moves forward.
From Programs to Movement with Ralph Moore
If disciples are the goal, every disciple must be able to make disciples.
Shift from performance to participation. Ralph Moore encouraged us to ask four simple questions about our time in the Word:
- What did God say to you?
- What will you do about it?
- How can we help you be obedient?
- Who will you share this with?
Ownership leads to action—and action leads to multiplication.
Start with Relationships with Lori Arnold
Before someone becomes a disciple, they become a friend.
Discipleship isn’t a program—it’s walking with someone in real life. It’s simple, relational, and requires time. You don’t need all the answers—just availability.
Don’t overlook the impact of one relationship.
Build a Multiplying Culture with Ed Kang
Real disciple making happens through shared life—not systems.
- Life-on-life discipleship
- Close proximity and open lives
- Generational multiplication
- Sending, not just gathering
Start small. Think long-term. Multiply through people, not programs.
A Needed Reset with D.Z. Cofield
A church can have the appearance of being alive—but be dead.
The solution is simple: Make disciple making the focus of everything.
There are only two kinds of people:
- Those who know Jesus and need to grow
- Those who need to Jesus
Everything your church does should serve that mission.
Real change doesn’t start on a stage—it starts by inviting one person to your table.
